John Hull was born about 18 December 1624 in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, England.[1][2][3][4] He was the son of Robert Hull, a blacksmith, and Elizabeth Storer, widow of Paul Storer.[1][2][3][4]
At age 11, John and his parents emigrated to the Massachusetts Bay Colony. They departed Bristol, England on 28 September 1635 aboard the ship George. They arrived in Boston on 7 November.[1][2][3][4]

He was well known as a merchant, goldsmith, silversmith and a minter of coins for the Massachusetts Bay Colony.[3][5] He is sometimes called the "Mint-Master" or the "Silversmith".[3][5]
John died on 1 October 1683.[2][3] He was buried in the Granary Burying Ground, Boston, Massachusetts on 5 October 1683.[2]
Records of Francis Higginson Atkins has John being born 1626 and passing 1695.[6]
