Biography

Mary Humphrey was baptised on 13 February 1602/3 at Thaxted, Essex, England.[1]

Death

by 1657 when husband remarried.[2]

Marriage

Andrew Warner of Hatfield Magna married Mary Humfrey daughter of Robert of Thaxted" on 5 October 1624. She was baptized at Thaxted 13 February 1602[/3?], and was daughter of Robert and Ann (Holland) Humfrey. She died by 1657. They had 8 children: John, Mary Steele, Andrew, Robert, Hannah Pratt, Ruth Kellogg, Daniel, & Isaac.[2]

Immigration

On about 23 August 1631, the Lyon captained by William Peirce, Master, left London and arrived at Nantasket, Plymouth, Massachusetts on November 2, bringing 'in all about sixty persons.'

Thaxted Parish Register, Vol. 1 (GS# 857072): Note: current list of children born to this mother show a 10-yr. gap between the 5th and 6th child. It is possible that some of these children are out of birth order and were actually older than Isaac, whose age is estimated from his statements at the time of signing depositions. As the family is now organized, the last 4 children were born after the mother was 45 yrs. old; unlikely, but not impossible.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:

One of my 7th ggs. Examination of the image of what is surely the original parish register (see https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-66RS-NB2) shows that the baptismal entry for "Maria Humfrey" is on "FFebruarie xiii" of the clearly-shown year 1603. This being, surely, an Old-Style date, the correct modern dating should be 13 February 1604. Anderson _et al._, presumably not having looked into the records on the other side of the Pond, show "1602[/3?]". I'll make the change.

Correction: the register, though presumably original, shows the new year beginning in January. So the birth date is presumably very early New Style/Gregorian and should remain as 1603. Which is a good thing, because by February of 1604, presumed mother Ann (Holland) Warner was dead...
