“Augustine Hunnicutt, son of John, was born circa 1677, Surry County, Virginia; nothing is known of his life, partly because of lost courthouse records. He left papers showing that he owned land in Surry county, Virginia. He married Phoebe Crews, daughter of Thomas, who died in Surry County in 1698, and Phoebe Crews.[1]
Issue:

I. John, born October 15, 1716
II. William
III. Augustine.“

In Boddie p251, immediately below the above text, is extensive discussion of John, wife, and children. There are several resumably reliable sources listed that can be located for the biography. Spratlin-29 18:18, 15 September 2023 (UTC)

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Augustine Birth is likely circa 1790. His death is unknown. He was the husband of Phoebe Crews. Phoebes Crews death date is also not known but its stated that she said to have lived to be very old.

Her existence is proven by her father Thomas Crews will 1697/1698. Her mother was Phoebe ( maiden name unknown) who later married Terrance Kiggin. Thomas her father was first married to Joane Grey and second Phoebe. The will mentions three daughters Elizabeth , Catherine and Feeby. The admin. is his wife Phobe Kinggin...

The second will regarding the Crews is the will of his son Thomas Jr, It mentions his three sons. William, ( left the land known as Crews Plantation) Thomas (left the land called Haystack), and John (left the land called Gray's )and specifically mentions his unborn child stating that if male the 300 acres ( called Cypress Swamp ) that he bought from Ann Warren and if female to be held in common. It also mentions leaving curtains and housewares to his daughter Elizabeth. It also states that if his wife Mary does not remarry his sons inherit at 21, but if she did they would get the inheritance at 16. The will suggest all his sons are very young. The will also mentions he wants his sons to have new bibles, as well as William and Thomas Williams. William and John Honeycut. This man died abt 1728.The Williams and the Honeycut's in this will are likely his nephews

Augustine and Phoebe Crews had

1. William born in 1714 had a common law wife Aileen MacNiel

( who is often confused with the William who married Ester Garner.)

2. John born in 1716 he married Jemima Rowell

3. Augustine born in 1719 he married Martha Edwards

There are two bibles concerning this family.

Bible 1 is the bible of John and Jemina Rowell stating his parents are Augustine and Phoebe Crews

Bible 2 is the bible of Dicey Honeycut the wife of Meredith. That names his grandparents as "Austin and Phobe Crews" The same bible lists his parents as Austin and Martha Edwards and names Austin brothers as William and John.

Based on the fact that the Thomas Crews lived next to the Warrens and that John and William Honeycut are specifically mentioned in their uncle Thomas Crews Jr will and the fact that Thomas Crews Jr bought land specifically from Anne Warren. I think its enough evidence to prove that Augustine was in fact a son of John Honeycut and Elizabeth Warren

Some of the transactions regarding John Hunnicutt may refer to his son son John Jr. or his nephew John Sr ( later of Hawkins Tenn. and Louisiana )

Separating the John's

John Hunnicutt (line 17, 1 white) and Mareday Hunnicutt (line 19, 1 white) on 1767 Cumberland County Tax lists. File 007. This likely Meredith and his brother John who later moved to East TN with likely Austin ( his father ) and Austin ( his brother )

John Hunnecutt (line 2, 2 whites) in File 007. This is likely John Hunnicutt and son Randolph. John's son Hartwell is on this same tax list in File 006.

Also on line 30 of this 1767 Cumberland Co NC list of Taxpayers is William Hunnicutt below the name of Dempsey Hughs. Why this doesn't show up on any printed list, I don't know. My 3x ggrandfather William Hunnicutt & 2x ggrandfather John Hunnicutt (son of William), witnessed the sale of 100 acres from Merida Honeycutt (acquired 13 July 1788) to William Tew, also my 2xggrandfather, on 8 Dec 1798, in Sampson Co, NC. This Merida Honeycutt listed his home state as South Carolina.
William was Meredith's brother -in-law. Meredith's wife was Dicey Honeycut sister of Fredrick, Robert. Drury, and your William.
