Biography

Joseph Hunt was born 16 Oct 1672 at Cow Neck, New York. He was the son of Joseph Hunt and grandson of Thomas Hunt (1615-1695). His father is mentioned in Thomas’s will, by which he was granted 40 pounds sterling.[1].

Joseph and Bethia Ferguson obtained a marriage license on 20 Dec 1697. He died about 1743.

Marriage

Joseph is said to have married Bethia Richardson , the widow of John Ketcham, in 1707.[2] Both Joseph and Bethia were in their fifties by 1707.

The Genealogical and Biogrsphical Record Quarterly has her marriage to Edward Kecham in 1677. Marriage record: Name Bethia Richardson Spouse Name Edward Ketcham Marriage Date 1677 Marriage Place Westchester, New York Marriage ID2220275517 other Comments on microfilm at Family History Library, Salt Lake City, Utah. Household Members Edward Ketcham

Research notes

Bethia Richardson was living in Westchester and one source has her death as October 1707.

Children

Martha is listed in an often-reliable mid 19th century source as having been a daughter of Joseph Hunt. However, that same source conflates Joseph's father Thomas with his brother Thomas Jr., so it is not always reliable.[3] Also listed that way, with the same conflation, in another more recent source [4] It would seem that Martha must have been the child of an earlier marriage.

Other Activities

Joseph witnessed the will of John Oakley of Westchester on April 19, 1712[5]
