John enlisted to join the Civil War, serving on the Union side, on 1 Nov 1863. He was assigned to Company M 1st Indiana Heavy Artillery Regiment or AKA the Jackass Regiment.
John applied for his war pension on application 127.678 which was accepted by certificate 90958 on 31 Jul 1867. It's a shame that he only received his pension for a little over a year. John's widow, Mary Ann, made application, 163444, for John's Civil War Pension the following year and was issued certificate 122953 on 31 Jul 1868.
