DNA

The DNA for this family can be found in the Hunt DNA Group Project. R-M269, Group 147, The Hunt 14. At this time there is no connection between this family and any other family in the DNA Group Project. The closest family groups are a minimum of 4GD at 37 Markers.

Please see the Origins of the "Hunt 14", the children of Dr. Thomas Hunt of Bedford County, Virginia.

Research Notes

This appears to be two different families misattributions. The family of Dr. Thomas Hunt of Bedford County, Virginia who married and Ann (presumably Henson) has been incorrectly connected to the Family of Thomas Elwwod Hunt of Westchester, NY. The DNA of Thomas Elwood's descendants do not match the Dr. Thomas Hunt of Virginia Genetically.

The name Elwood has not been associated with Dr. Thomas hunt of Bedford County Virginia, nor has the last name of his wife Anne been associated with the name Mattingly. If there is documentary evidence of this name for Ann it would smash down a brick wall which has eluded researchers for centuries! Please post if there is anything.

Misattribution of Dr. Thomas Hunt of Bedford, Virginia to the Westchester, NY Hunt Family

When I first found WikiTree (2011) it was because I was searching the internet for my line of Hunts, via Esli Hunt, Sr. I stumbled into a HUGE mess here on WikiTree. Dr. Thomas Hunt of Bedford County Virginia had 20 something children and about half of them were from Westchester, NY.

I spent quite a while doing the research needed to determine what had happened (well after my initial excitement that Dr. Thomas' origins had been solved - NOT). It seems that someone somewhere, with very good intentions I am sure, had connected Dr. Thomas with a fella named Thomas Hunt who may or may not share a birth year with Dr. Thomas Hunt of Bedford County, Virginia.

The first clue? The children and the two very divergent locations - A Thomas Hunt might have been the father of these 20 something children, but he could not have managed to do it both in Virginia and Westchester, NY during the time frame.

Current documentation shows that Dr. Thomas Hunt lived, worked, was arrested and detained, in Bedford County Virginia. This Dr. Thomas Hunt is not the Thomas Hunt of Westchester, NY. Dr. Thomas Hunt of Virginia married an "Ann". This Ann does appear in documents but without a last name. In most Hunt, VA, Family histories she is noted as "she is presumed to be Ann Henson."

To see more about this, please see Origins of the Hunt 14, the children of Dr. Thomas Hunt of Bedford County, Virgina. Please contact me if you have profiles that are affected. Thanks! - Mags Gaulden 16:22, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Peter by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Peter:

Washington County, Tennessee did not exist when he was born (1768, according to the profile)... neither did Washington County, Virginia (which was created in 1776). It (Washington County, VA) was formed from Fincastle County, which was formed from Botetourt County in 1772. Botetourt County was formed from Augusta County in 1769. Soooo ... birth should be Augusta County, Colony of Virginia.

See http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~george/countyformations/virginiaformationmaps.html & the various county categories/space pages for more info (see county pages here).

Hey Liz,

Thanks for the update on the name of birth location. I love it when collaboration fixes research errors. As to PPP? his and all of his siblings, along with his parents get kidnapped and misattributed to a family in NY - as the profile notes. I have had to correct it twice in 8 years - HUGE mess. They were all ppp'd because of that prior to the latest changes in project leadership...so I guess it is back in your court.

Alicia,

I proposed a merge and removed Thomas Elwood as the father of PEter. Please read the notes posted to the Research notes section of the profile for an explanation about the misattribution and family mix-up between the The Dr. Thomas hunt of Bedford and the Thomas Elwood Hunt of Westchester, NY - the mis-attribution has been copied over and over again but it is still not correct.

Thanks,

Mags

Hunt-15868 and Hunt-1053 appear to represent the same person because: This is to correct the mis-attribution of Peter Hunt, son of Dr. Thomas hunt to Thomas Elwood hunt of the Westchester NY family.

Hunt-15868 and Hunt-1053 do not represent the same person because: This appears to be two different families or possible misattributions. The family of Dr. Thomas Hunt of Bedford County, Virginia who married and Ann (presumably Henson) has been incorrectly connected to the Family of Thomas Elwwod Hunt of Westchester, NY. I see that there are now three different profiles for Thomas Elwood that also need to be cleaned up and merged together. Does this Peter belong to the Peter Hunt for Thomas of Virginia or NY? We might be able to figure this out with the DNA since Thomas Elwood's descendant do not match the Dr. Thomas Hunt of Virginia.
