Henry Hunt was a Virginia colonist.

Henry was born about 1700 in Surry County, Virginia. He is the son of William Hunt and Sarah Wyche. He passed away between 13 November 1750 (date of will) and 5 March 1750/51 (date will probated) in Granville County, North Carolina.

Henry moved to North Carolina from Brunswick County, Virginia in 1742.

Marriage & Children

Henry married Agnes Unknown about 1725 in Virginia. Known children named in Henry's will:

No marriage record has been found for Henry's marriage to Agnes. Online family trees at ancestry.com state his wife was Agnes B Hare. This is based on a record cited on ancestry.com for a marriage between William B Hunt and Agnes B Hare in Granville County, North Carolina. The marriage record as cited on ancestry.com does not include a date and the groom's name is not Henry. Family trees continue to use this record as proof of marriage by giving Henry's name as Henry William or William Henry Hunt.

Unfortunately, when one researches the actual marriage record for William B Hunt and Agnes B Hare in Granville County, North Carolina, one will find that the date of marriage is 8 March 1852, about 80 years after Henry died.[1] Henry's wife is not Agnes B Hare. (Note: Last name at birth for Agnes was changed from Hare to Unknown by Profile Manager on 10 August 2020.)

Henry wrote his will on 13 November 1750 in Granville County, North Carolina and it was entered for probate and recorded on 5 March 1750/51 in Granville County. Named in his will are:[2]

Excellent point made about Agnes. I don't think we know her Maiden name, and I admit to feeling really lazy yesterday and almost just putting Agnes B. Hare in as wife. I think Agnes is correct, but Agnes MNU.
