Family sources believe that Caroline Hunt was Catherine Hunt who was baptised at St Peter, Rauceby, Lincolnshire on May 20, 1822. She was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Hunt of South Rauceby.
Caroline left Gravesend, Kent, on the "Martha Ridgway" on 5 July 1840, with her parents and her siblings, arriving at Port Nicholson on August14. She is recorded in the passenger list as a sempstress, aged 19.
In 1842, Caroline married fellow "Martha Ridgway" passenger, Daniel West, in Wellington (probably St James, Lower Hutt). The Wests were longtime residents in the Hutt Valley, where Daniel was a farmer. They had no children.
Caroline was widowed in 1899, and she passed away on 1 March, 1904. She is buried, with Daniel, in the churchyard at St James, Lower Hutt.
