Leland Almus Hunt was born on 5 Feb. 1896 at Spirit Lake, Iowa, USA. [1] He appeared on the census of June 1900 in the household of his parents, Charles Hunt and Carrie Edna (Smith) Hunt, at Superior, Dickinson Co., Iowa.[2] He appeared on the census of 4 May 1910 in the household of his mother at Jefferson, Fayette Co., Iowa. [3]
He married Ruth Emily Shaw, daughter of Nathan Shaw and Clara (Hardy) Shaw, circa 1916 at Iowa.[4]
In 1917 he worked as an M.C. B. Clerk for the Chicago Great Western Railroad, Oelwin, Iowa. He and Ruth appeared on the census of 9 Jan. 1920 at 715 North Frederick St., Oelwein, Fayette Co., Iowa.[5] He and Ruth appeared on the census of 1 Jan. 1925 at Oelwein, Fayette Co., Iowa.[4] He was a postman when he and Ruth appeared on the census of 17 April 1930 at 735 North Frederick Avenue, Jefferson, Fayette Co., Iowa.[6] He and Ruth appeared on the census of 11 April 1940 at Oelwein, Fayette County, Iowa. [7]
He lived in 1965 at Oelwein, Fayette Co., Iowa. Leland died on 15 July 1966[8] at Oelwein, Fayette County, Iowa, at age 70 and was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, Fayette County, Iowa. His memorial has a copy of his obituary, a photo of his headstone and links to those of family members.[9]
OBITUARY - LELAND ALMUS HUNT Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 3:30 p.m. at the Hintz Funeral Home in Oelwein, for Leland Hunt, 70, Oelwein, who died at Mercy Hospital, Monday at 2 a.m. Hunt was a retired mail carrier. Burial is scheduled at Woodlawn Cemetery. Survivors include three sons, Rev. Stanley Hunt, Covina, California; Herbert Hunt, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Paul Hunt, Oelwein; two daughters, Mrs. William Morris, Oshkosh, Wisconsin and Mrs. Howard Parker, Oelwein; fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
