Josiah Hunt Senior, son of Thomas Hunt and Cicely Clarke, was born in 1650 at Stamford, Connecticut [1]. Author Grenville C Mackenzie, a chronicler of Hunt family descendants, states that Josiah was born about 1654.[2]
Grove Farm
Josiah's father Thomas Hunt, the immigrant, and patentee of the Grove Farm, in his will dated 1690 and proved in 1697, left that significant property to his grandson, Josiah Hunt Jr..
Josiah was 16 when the will was signed — making the boy's father — the Josiah of this profile — his executor with (temporary) possession for the use of his son.[3]
Marriage to Rebecca Harrison
Josiah Hunt first married Rebecca Harrison, daughter of John Harrison and Katherine Gilbert. Josiah married Rebecca [2] at Westchester Co., New York[4][5] by 28 Jun 1671.
Rebecca's mother had been charged with witchcraft in Stamford, Connecticut in 1669. After the trial, the family moved to New Haven to distance themselves from the town gossip.
Josiah Hunt Jr., b. 11 Mar 1674; d. 7 Dec/Feb 1746 at age 72; estate probated 14 Feb 1747; married Abigail Huestis/Husted (mother Rebecca); Josiah Hunt and Abigail Husted obtained a marriage license on 24 Dec 1695.
Marriage to Martha (not a Honeywell?)
Josiah then married Martha [Honeywell?].[4] Josiah married Martha[2] [Honeywell] 18 Aug , 1680[5][6][7] There is now considerable doubt that Martha was possibly a sister of Israel Honeywell.
Martha Hunt had last appeared on 17 June 1719, when she consented to a deed from her husband Josiah to their son Thomas (E:239), but we do not in what year Martha actually died. Josiah Hunt married, as his third wife, Mary, widow of Israel Honeywell.
Thomas Hunt, born 4 Dec 1680; died 1758; first married Rachel Arnold, daughter of Isaac Arnold, on 8 Jan 1707; second married Anna Kirkpatrick (Mary Anna Patrick) 2 Dec 1737
Moses Hunt, born 21 Mar 1684; m. Mary Close. He died before 21 May 1764. His estate was probated on 21 May 1764.
Abigail Hunt Buckbee was born on 25 May 1686. She married John Buckbee (378) before 1729.
Aaron Hunt was born on 4 Mar 1687. He died young.
David Hunt was born in 1691. He married Mary Cromwell, daughter of John Cromwell. He died before 18 Dec 1775. His estate was probated on 18 Dec 1775.
Abner Huntborn 4 Mar 1687/93; married Phebe Cornell, widow, before 1724. He died before 12 Aug 1756.
Martha Hunt Waylman was born in 1695. She married before Nov 1729, Moses Waylman (or Waylinan or Wayland). She died after 1719.
Marriage to Mrs. Mary Honeywell
It is unclear just when Josiah was married to Mary, widow of Israel Honeywell. It was clearly after 17 June 1719 when Martha last appears, but we do not know when Martha actually died. And it was also after 17 May 1720 when Mary Honeywell was granted administration of Israel's estate.
They were clearly married well before March 1729 when Israel Honeywell's daughter Sarah Honeywell, on 07 March 1729[/30?], acknowledged receipt from her "honoured father in law [stepfather] Josiah Hunt one fether bed and furniture, bedsted, a chest, and all mu mother, deceased her clothing, &c and all the rest of ye household stuff wch belonged to the estate of my father Israel Honeywell deceased that were in the custody of the said Josiah Hunt" (F:252)." Josiah's daughter, Phebe Fowler, witnessed the receipt; his son, Josiah of Grove Farm, was married to Abigail at the time.
His third wife was not named in Josiah Hunt's will of 13 Mar 1729/30.
Death and Probate
Josiah Hunt Senior died in 1732. His estate was probated on 10 Dec 1732. He wrote a will on 13 Mar 1729 (Thomas Hunt Descendants, Manuscript, December 1936 Copy in possession of Everett Hunt, p 47).[4]
Last Will and Testament
Josiah's will was dated 20 Mar 1729 and proved 19 Dec 1732. He leaves to his son Moses 50 acres in the Long Reach, to son Abner 25 pounds Commonage in (and?) the rest of Josiah's lands in Westchester. Mentions sons Josiah, David, Thomas and daughters Abigail Buckbee, Phebe Fowler, and Martha Waylman.[8]

Good point. Martha was added as Josiah's wife way back in 2013 (before I adopted this profile in 2016). And since there seems to be no evidence that Martha "Honeywell" (actually Moore) was ever in Westchester New York, perhaps I should detach her as Josiah's wife. Or should I post something about it on G2G first?
After doing some more research, I now think we should keep her connected, but mark her parents as uncertain (they should probably eventually be disconnected as her parents). It is possible she is sister of Israel Honeywell (also of Westchester, New York), but there is also no evidence that he came from Saco Maine either. His parents also seem uncertain. Therefore, after marking Martha's parents as uncertain, I could explain all this and erase the first part that says: "Martha was born no later than 1657. Her mother Bridget Gray died in 1658. She was either born in Maine as were most of her family, or Connecticut."
I do not know what records you've come across. I've seen zero evidence that Martha was any relation to Israel Honeywell. On the contrary, this seems to be a case of mistaken identity. Mary, third wife of Josiah Hunt, was widow of Israel Honeywell. This is seen as follows:
By his will of 28 Jun 1718, Israel Honeywell Sr. devised his movable estate to wife Mary, during her "naturall life," and to "Daughter Sarah" thereafter. Sarah was implicitly unmarried at the time, as distinct from "Daughter Mary Baxter," also named in the will.
Israel Honeywell Sr. died before 17 May 1720 when wife Mary was granted administration of the estate.
On 7 Mar 1729[/30], Sarah Honeywell acknowledged receipt from her "honoured father in law [stepfather] Josiah Hunt one fether bed and furniture, bedsted, a chest, and all mu mother, deceased her clothing, &c and all the rest of ye household stuff wch belonged to the estate of my father Israel Honeywell deceased that were in the custody of the said Josiah Hunt" (Westchester County F:252). This was certainly our Josiah. His daughter, Phebe Fowler, witnessed the receipt; his son, Josiah of Grove Farm, was married to Abigail at the time. Thus our Josiah Hunt married, as his third wife, Mary, widow of Israel Honeywell.
This timeline is consistent with the rest of the record. Martha Hunt last appeared on 17 Jun 1719, shortly before Israel Honeywell's death, when she consented to a deed from husband Josiah Hunt to son Thomas (E:239). No wife was named in Josiah Hunt's will of 13 Mar 1729[/30], shortly after the receipt from stepdaughter Sarah Honeywell.
Returning to Martha, second wife of Josiah Hunt, nothing suggests that she was a Honeywell connection. As memorialized in the Westchester town books, Thomas Hunt was born 4 Dec 1680 to Josiah Hunt and wife Martha. At that time, Israel Honeywell lived far away in Ipswich, MA, where he showed up frequently in court records. Israel purchased a home lot in Westchester on 5 May 1693 (B:151). There was no earlier Honeywell presence in Westchester -- nor did Israel have any known sister or the like by the name of Martha!
(1) I have added information. as well as considerable doubt that Martha was a Honeywell. (2) Also added a section called "Marriage to Mrs. Mary Honeywell". (3) and on Martha's profile, I added the suggestion that her maiden should probably be changed to Unknown.
I have also disconnected the parents on Martha's profile and used your ideas to modify her biography. I also posted this comment on Martha's profile: "As stated in the biography, there is apparently no good evidence that Martha was a Honeywell, and nothing to indicate she was born in Maine. Therefore, it would be a good idea to change her Last Name at Birth (maiden name) to Unknown." Unfortunately, there is only one profile manager (who can actually change the LNAB), and it has been several years since he shows any activity on Wikitree.
The profile for Martha needs work. Her last name at birth should read Moore, not Honeywell. It also says her mother died in 1658, which apparently isn't true.
Sounds useful, but why connect this Martha to Josiah Hunt? None of the cited sources suggest Martha's identity. No primary records are cited in either profile.
