Biography

“Daniel Hunt, Jr., oldest son of Daniel and Hannah (Burnham) Hunt, b. prob. at Sharon, Ct. ca. 1751 (per record of death 14 April 1826 at age 75, albeit some DAR records give dates of 1754/7-1828); enlisted in 1777 as a private under Capt. Josiah Stoddard in Col. Sheldon’s Regt. of Light Dragoons in the Conn. Line. [1]

"Daniel m. 9 Aug. 1779 Hannah Miller at Amenia, NY. Came to Tunbridge, Vt., following brothers Simeon and David, wife Hannah died there 12 Dec. 1802 and Daniel died there in 1826. Had a large family born at Sharon, Ct.”[2] They had the following (known) children[2]:

  1. Stoddard, b. 14 Feb. 1780, m. 9 Mar. 1826 Eliza Smith of Chelsea; d. 10 Dec. 1855.
  2. James Nelson, b. 1781; m. Betsy Brigham at Chelsea; d. 1863 at Tunbridge.
  3. Nelson James, b. 19 Feb. 1781?; m. Sarah Jewel.
  4. Polly, b. 1783; m. Kent Bicknell; after his death in Vermont she moved to Ohio and lived as housekeeper for her unmarried brother Clark Hunt.
  5. Simeon, b. 1787; m. 1820 Asenath Tracy; d. 1875 Waterford, Erie Co., Penn.
  6. Betsey, b. 1789; m. Abel Bennett; d. 1853.
  7. Fanny, b. 1791; m. Rufus Hatch of Conneult, Ohio.
  8. Esther, b. 1793; d. 20 Mar. 1819.
  9. Clark, b. 1795; never married; moved to Ohio 1834 with Horace, Fanny and Polly.
  10. Horace, b. 1797; m. Safrona (Sophronia) Durkee 1830; to Astabula Co., Ohio 1834.
  11. Hannah Miller, b. 1799; m. Stephen Smith.

He died 14 Apr 1826 in Tunbridge, Orange, Vermont, United States, and is buried in Hunt Cemetery, Tunbridge, Orange County, Vermont, USA. [3]
