Thomas Jefferson Hunt was born on March 8, 1831 in Jones, Georgia, United States, son of Thomas Hunt (1800–1875) and Sarah Trippe Pope (1804–1847).

Thomas married Mary E Renfroe on 5 December 1852 in Jones, Georgia, United States.[2] They had children including Ida Pope Hunt (1854–1899).
Thomas Hunt served in the United States Civil War.

James M Hunt served in the 8th Regiment of the Georgia Infantry from about 1863 until the end of the US Civil War.[3]
