Samuel Hunt was born in 1654 [1]in Middleburg, New York, the youngest son of two early settlers of Long Island, Ralph Hunt and Elizabeth Jessup. (Today, Middleburn is known as Elmhurst, Queens County, Long Island, New York.)

Samuel Hunt himself was one of the early settlers of Maidenhead, New Jersey, along with his brothers "Capt. Ralph" and Edward Hunt, and his cousins Theophilus Phillips and "Major" Phillip Phillips. (Maidenhead was originally part of Burlington, New Jersey; in 1714, it became part of the new county of Hunterdon. Maidenhead's name was changed to Lawrence in 1818 and it became part of Mercer Co. in 1838.)
Samuel Hunt's homestead was on the King's Road through Maidenhead, land on Stoney Brook; part in Maidenhead, Hunterdon County (now Lawrence, Mercer County) and part in Hopewell, Hunterdon County.
He was a yeoman and a petty naval officer[2].
In 1678 Samuel married Mary Burroughs, probably in Newtown, Queens, New York. (Alternate data for marriage location: Massachusetts. In "U.S., New England Marriages Prior to 1700" place is listed as ‘Billerica / Tewksbury’’, towns in eastern Massachusetts.)

Samuel Hunt wrote his will on 15 January 1717 in Maidenhead, New Jersey. He requested that his property be divided among his children and named his wife and son Samuel as executors. [4]
Partitions of property were to be made by son, Samuel, and John Price & Hezekiah Bonhome. Witnesses were Ralph Hunt, Theophilus Phillips (nephew), & Jonathan Davis.The will was proved on 21 November 1720.
