Biography

The Honourable Robert Hunt was born in Bermuda to Thomas and Elizabeth Hunt. His date of birth is not known.

In the New York Journal 1768 "..Mr Hunt of Bermuda is appointed Collector of Customs for the Bahamas, and not Mr Edward Davis, as formerly mentioned.."

Robert Hunt married three times, and had children by all his wives:

First, to Mrs. Sarah Bunch in 1772. "In a letter, from New Providence, we are advised of the marriage of the Hon. Robert Hunt and Mrs. Sarah Bunch, relict of the late Thomas Bunch, Esq."

Second, to Deborah Beek at Christ Church, Nassau, Bahamas, in 1784. She was the widow of Thomas Duncombe. "Death, on this island, after a severe and lingering illness, which she bore with exemplary fortitude, Mrs. Deborah Hunt, wife of the Hon Robert Hunt." Bahama Gazette 2-6 September 1791.

Third, to Sarah Thomson or Thompson in January 1792 in Nassau.

In 1792, Robert Hunt received grants of land in Long Island, Bahamas of 300 and 845 acres.

Robert Hunt served as interim governor from June 6, 1797 to March 1798, and from December 1801 to January 29, 1802.[1] He also served as chief justice and on the governor's council.

"Died yesterday Friday the 18th, The Honorable Robert Hunt..more than 40 yrs a member of His Majesty's Council & who on 2 occasions represented His Sovereign as Commander in Chief of these Islands."
