Biography

William Hunt was born on 2 January 1798 at Cropredy in Oxfordshire. He was baptised at Cropredy parish church on 29 July 1798, as the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Hunt, of Cropredy. [1] [2]

William Hunt, bachelor, and Jane Newman, spinster, both of the parish, were married at Cropredy parish church on 11 November 1819. The witnesses were called William Smith and Ann Plumbe. [3]

Their son Thomas was baptised at Cropredy on 25 February 1821.

1841 census: William Hunt was living at Byfield with Jane Hunt and their children. His age was given as 40, implying a birth date between 1796 and 1801. He was said to have been born outside Northamptonshire. He was a shoemaker. [4]

1851 census: William Hunt was living at Byfield with his wife Jane and 2 of their children. His age was given as 53, implying a birth date in 1797 or 1798. His birthplace was given as Cropredy, Oxfordshire. He was a shoemaker. [2]

He passed away in 1877.

Research Notes

  • Betty Bint writes in her research 1987: William was a son of Thomas Hunt and Mary nee Smith.

But note: a child called Thomas Hunt was baptised at Cropredy on 7 January 1798, as the son of Thomas and Mary Hunt, of Cropredy. [5] So the above information might be questioned.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:

I started the profile. However, I didn't add certain details. It is a worldwide family tree and if you have sources that prove the entries in a profile are false. So you can change them at any time by adding the sources.

I have boldly changed the date and place of marriage to one in Cropredy, which seems much more likely to be correct, and, incidentally, which happened before the baptism of their children Thomas. If you feel that is wrong, by all means correct it.
