Biography

John Hunt born 1759, the eldest son of Dr. Japheth Hunt. John married Lydia Mallory, the daughter of Major Samuel Mallory, of Hillsdale, Columbia, New York, on December 25, 1791.

Dr. Hunt, who had married Lydia, the daughter of Major Samuel Mallory, of Hillsdale, Columbia county, was induced to move from that place into the new country in the vicinity of his father’s residence. A man with horses and sleigh was employed to bring his effects and family, which then comprised himself and wife, one daughter three years of age, and a son of six months.

John Hunt purchased one hundred acres out of the southwest corner of lot No. 72, in Marathon, New York and moved his family there from Hillsdale, New York around 1796. John Hunt was a justice of the peace; an office he held by successive appointments until his death, which occurred August 8th, 1815.[1]. Buried in Marathon Village Cemetery, Marathon, Cortland, New York, USA[2]
