Biography

Joseph Eddy Hunt was born January 27, 1873 in Cedartown, Polk County, Georgia to William Malon Hunt and Amanda Lettie Dooley.[1] As a boy, he was called "Eddy". [2] Edd was his preferred name as an adult. [3]

Joseph Eddy Hunt married Katy Alva Godwin December 10, 1893 in Cedartown, Georgia.[4] After their marriage, they moved to Texas with his parents, William and Lettie Hunt and Edd's brothers Charley, James Armester, Rual Claude, and sisters, Lizzie and Lula.

[There is controversy about the sisters. At one point I combined them into one profile: "Lula Elizabeth". Lizzie is documented in the 1880 and 1900 census records. Lula is documented in family pictures, an entry in Edd's autograph book, and she has two nieces who bear her name. The 1900 Federal Census record reported Lettie was the mother of seven children with five currently living. That information provided a rationale for making two profiles. One child is still not accounted for. Charley and Lula are not found in the 1900 census. I believe it is possible Lula was born after the 1880 census and died prior to the 1900 census. Katy and Edd's daughter, Lula Maude was born August 5, 1900. It is also possible that Lula Elizabeth was one person. And that the numbers recorded on the census were in error. There are no photos in the family collection identified as Lizzie. That is out of character. --Allen Brown ]

Edd and Katy's first son, Olin Edward Hunt was born June 13, 1895 in Bonham, Fannin County, Texas. Charles King Hunt was born June 1, 1897, also in Bonham.[1]

In 1900, Edd and Katy and their sons, Olin E. and Charly, were living with his parents, William and Lettie, in Grayson County, Texas. His sister, Lizzie, and brothers, James A. and Claud were living with them. William and Joseph E.'s occupations were listed as "Farmer". ( Joseph E.'s birth date was recorded as January 1872 [correct: January 27, 1873] on the census form, and Lettie was mistakenly transcribed as "Tilly" after the census.) [5]

Lula Maude Hunt was born August 5, 1900 in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas. Mary Alva Hunt was born November 15, 1902 in Sherman. James Henry Hunt was born December 29, 1904 in Pottsboro, Grayson County, Texas.[1]

In 1910, the census form reported Edd and Katy Hunt had five children, and had lost one. [6] Their son Mallory Malon Hunt was born June 7, 1907. He died June 11, 1909.[1]

Their last child, Beulah Katherine Hunt was born November 8, 1914 in Vernon, Texas.[1] In the spring of 1915, they moved west and homesteaded in New Mexico. [7]

In 1920, the Hunt family was living in Colmor, Colfax County, New Mexico.[8] The location is identiifed as Springer, New Mexico by Katy in family photos.[9]

In 1930, Edd and Katy were living in Mosca, Alamosa County, Colorado with Henry and Beulah. Their son, Olin, his wife, Grace, and their five children lived nearby.[10]
