One George Washington Hunt, born about 1837, enlisted on March 10, 1862, in Company G, North Carolina 46th Infantry Regiment on 16 Apr 1862. He was a private.
By 1880, Emeline and George W. were married and lived with their children. The census includes the following family members: --G. W., age 43, father --Emeline, age 30, wife --Cicero W., age 14, son --John, age 11, son --Julia E., age 5, daughter. It seems likely that Emeline was George's second wife, and that Cicero and John were from his first marriage. George worked as a wagon wright, was "disabled" (described as maimed, crippled, or bedridden), and could not read or write, nor could Cicero or John.
On the 1900 census, Emeline and George were living with their children Rebecca E., Archie L., and George O., in Tabernacle, Randolph County, North Carolina. George was working as a farmer. Emeline and all of the children were literate. The document states that George and Emeline had been married for 28 years, since 1872, and that they had had 6 children of which 4 were still living.
