Mary was born Mary Bishop Hunt to Charles Hunt , Blacksmith and Elizabeth Bishop in 1816 in Glastonbury Somerset.[1]
1839 ARRIVAL IN AUSTRALIA
Mary B Hunt, migrated to Port Phillip in the Colony of New South Wales in 1839 on the WILLIAM METCALFE as an assisted migrant . Her age was given as 22. She was Roman Catholic and single. She was assigned to a Mr Dean as a Dairymaid. [2][3]
1841 MARRIAGE
In 1841 Mary Bishop Hunt married Alexander Castle at St James Church of England , Melbourne [4][5] Alexander died in 1844.
In the Supreme Court of New South Wales, for the District of Port Phillip. ECCLESIASTICAL JURISDICTION. In the goods of Alexander Castle of Pascoe-ville, in the District of Port Phillip. NOTICE is hereby given, that I shall, at the expiration of fourteen days from the date hereof, apply to the Resident Judge of this Honorable Court, by petition, that administration of all and singular the goods, chattels, and credits, which were of the above named Alexander Castle at the time of his death, be granted to Mary Bishop Castle of Pascoeville, aforesaid, the widow of the said Alexander Castle, deceased. Dated this 28th day of August, 1844. GEORGE BARBER Proctor for the said Mary Bishop Castle.[6]
It appears that his Estate was about £35 but this was not enough to cover court probate expenses[7]
1845 MARRIAGE
Mary Castle wed Apr 1845 to Isaac Davis and had 7 children before Isaac died in 1862. Mary could read and write but Isaac signed his Will this a cross.
1897 Death
Mary Davis died in Footscray Victoria in 1897. She was aged 82 [8]
