Samuel Hunt was probably born in Swanwick, a hamlet close to Alfreton, Derbyshire in 1831. No birh or christening records are apparent but both the 1841[1] and 1851[2] Census records, when Samuel is living with his parents and siblings in Swanwick, Alfreton are consistent with these birth place and date.
Marriage
Samuel married Rebecca Hopkinson in 1854, Belper District which covers Alfreton, Derbyshire[3]
Rebecca was christened on 26 March 1837 in Ripley, Derbyshire, the daughter of George Hopkinson (b.1798, Morton, Brackenfield, Derbyshire) and Hannah (Wilson) Hopkinson who married in Alfreton in 1822[4]. In 1841 Rebecca is living with her parents in Wainsgrove, Pentrich, Derbyshire and in 1851 she is a servant in the household of Benjamin Walters in Alfreton, Derbyshire.
Seven Hunt children are registered in Rebecca’s maiden name of Hopkinson between 1855 and 1870, including Henry (b.1862) who later emigrated to the USA.
Samuel Hunt, b.1870, Alfreton, Derbyshire[11] Probably named in respect of his father who did not see him born.
Death
Samuel died late in 1869, in Belper District aged 37 years (dob=1832)[12][13]
Research Notes
The 1861 Census reveals nothing to indicate a family group of Samuel, Rebecca and their children, however by the time of the 1871 Census Rebecca (b.1837, Pentrich, Derbyshire) is recorded as Widowed and Head of Household living in Swanwick, Alfreton, Derbyshire with all her children. It can only be assumed that Samuel is the father of all the children
