Thomas Huntington was a Newark Founder

Biography

Thomas Huntington immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).

Thomas was born about 1626 in England to Simon Huntington.[1] Thomas came with his brothers, Simon and Christopher and their parents. Their father, also named Simon, died at sea of smallpox during transport to North America.[2][3]

Thomas Huntington was a freeman of Connecticut in 1657[4] and married Hannah Crane, daughter of Jasper Crane.[5] about 1660. In his will, Jasper Crane called his daughter Hannah, the "wife of Thomas Huntington," and Crane made his "son-in-law Thomas Huntington" an executor.[6]

He married Hannah, daughter of Jasper Crane and they had the following children:[7] Samuel and Hannah.

Thomas signed the Fundamental Agreements and was a founder of Newark, New Jersey.[8]

He died after 1684, his wife Hannah remarried John Ward Sr.

Thomas and Hannah (Crane) had children : Samuel and Hannah. Samuel was born 1667 died 1708. The will dated Nov. 11, 1704, names children, Thomas, who had wife Susanna ; Simon born 1686 had wife Thankful, died in Morris county, perhaps at Whippany, July 17, 1770, and Hannah. The will of Simon mentions a brother Samuel.[9]
