According to the 1850 United States Census for the town of Oxford in Chenango County, New York, Henry C. Huntley, a son in the household of Marvin and Temperance Huntley, was 5 years old (see photo, line 31) in that year.
His father's occupation was "laborer." He was born in Connecticut, as was his wife. He was 53, his wife 54. Marvin and Temperance Huntley had 9 children, of whom 6 were still living in their parents' household in 1850, all of them born in New York (see photo, lines 25-32):
Not far away (see photo, lines 17-19), the census taker found Henry's brother, who, like their father, was listed as a "laborer." Since Jonathan, at 27 years old, had been born in New York, Marvin and Temperance probably left Connecticut shortly after their marriage, if they didn't actually marry in New York. Jonathan's wife, Susan, was found in this smaller household, together with Henry's 16-year-old sister, Lucy. (See photo, lines 17-19).
