Biography

Aaron Huntley son of Aaron Huntley and Mary (Champion) Huntley was born on 1 December 1680 at Lyme, Connecticut. [1] He was a lifelong resident of Lyme, where he lived on lands he received from his father by gift and inheritance.[2] 20 Jan. 1702/3 Aaron Huntley received a gift of land from his father, Aaron, “a parcel of upland, marsh, bogs, meadow, 28 acres and halfe more or less in Lyme. On west side of 4 mile river a little above the Tillotsons, twenty acres, and was granted by the towne as 4th division., Nly and Wly with the commons, Sly by Daniel Huntley, Ely by 4 Mile River.”[3]

He married Deborah DeWolf(e), daughter of Stephen DeWolf and Hannah (Jones) DeWolf, on 27 July 1707 at Lyme, Connecticut.[1]

He died on 26 Sep. 1748 at Lyme, Connecticut, at age 67. [1] Deborah survived her husband.[1][4]

  1. Hannah b. July 22, 1708.[1] m. Ebenezer Mack. Dies in 1796. Married on April 30, 1728, Ebenezer Mack, son of John and Sarah (Bagley) Mack of Lyme, Connecticut. Hanna (Huntley) Mack was the ancestress of Joseph Smith, the originator of the Mormon Faith. (Smith-Hale Genealogy)

  3. Solomon b. 1 Sep. 1712.[1]Dies before 1724 (church records).
  4. Deborah, b. 20 Aug. 1714.[1]Died in Lyme on March 26, 1807 aged 96. She married Solomon Gee on May 29, 1731 in Lyme, Connecticut. Solomon died on April 13, 1796 aged 71.
  5. Ruth b. 1 Mar. 1716/7.[1]She married in Lyme Samuel Huntley.
  6. Stephen b. 28 Feb. 1718/9.[1]Not mentioned in his father's will.
  7. Phebe Huntley b. 1 Mar. 1721/2.[1]Died in 1797 aged 77 years. She marries Captain Nicodemus Miller on March 13, 1740. She was his second wife. Capt. Nicodemus Miller died in Marlow, New Hampshire, on June 14, 1781, aged 67.
  8. Esther Huntley b. 21 May 1724.[1]Married on May 20, 1741, William Robins Jr. (Lyme Births, Marriages and Deaths, vol. 1, p. 14)
  9. Nathan Huntley b. 2 June 1726. married Lucy Smith.[1]
  10. Jemima Huntley b. 30 Aug. 1728.[1]She married Eber Lewis on May 26, 1754 and moved to Marlow, New Hampshire.
  11. Timothy b. 22 Oct. 1731.[1]and dies on September 26, 1748. (??) He was placed under the guardianship of his brother Nathan on October 11, 1748 (New London Probate Records, vol. J. 5, p. 74)
