Jabez Huntley Jr., son of Jabez, was born about 1760 in Lyme, Connecticut.[1]
He married 23 Dec. 1782, Betty Smith, daughter of Isaac and Sarah (Wiswell) Smith in Machias, Washington County, Maine.[1]
He served as a private in Capt. Joseph Sevey's company, Col. Benjamin Foster's regiment, during the Revolutionary War, enlisted 25 Jun 1777 and discharged 16 Jul 1777, service 23 days. Also same regiment 17 days on alarm. Also Lieut. John Scott's detachment from the 6th Regiment, service between 31 Aug 1779 and 20 Nov 1779, 8 days at Penobscot.
Jabez Huntley moved to Plattsburgh, NY, where two of his sons, Adriel and Enoch, were living. When they reached there it was winter and they remained until spring. They started on their western trip and on the shores of Lake Ontario Jabez found his brother, Rufus. Liking the country, they decided to stay there, but were taken sick and died in less than two months. The children returned to Plattsburg [NEHGR 101:150].
Jabez died, 1 Oct. 1816, "on the shores of Lake Ontario," in upstate NY; burial place unknown. [2] [3] [4]
