Biography

Mary was born on January 20, 1731 in Plainfield, Windham, Connecticut.[1][2] She was the daughter of Thomas Herd / Hurd and Lydia (Bumpas) Hurd. On March 27, 1755, she married Obadiah Benjamin in the northern part of Preston (now Griswold), Connecticut.[3][4][5]

Mary and Obed left Connecticut via New London in May 1760, arriving at Horton's Landing on June 4, 1760 with two sons Stephen and Caleb. They were part of the main 22-ship party of the New England Planters.[6] She passed away on December 28, 1786 in Horton Township, Kings, Nova Scotia, and is buried in Old Cemetery at Wolfville, Nova Scotia.[7]
