Biography

Abraham was born in 1809 in Norway, New York. He was the son of Abraham Hurd and Mary Wilcox. [1]

He attended College of Physicians and Surgeons in Norway, New [2]

He settled in Ogle County, Illinois in 1836.

He married Persis Brown in 1840 .[3]

They farmed in Ogle County, Illinois.

They had the following children:

  1. Sarah Ann Hurd 1840-1926 m. Thomas White 1862 d. Oklahoma
  2. Henry Ebenezer Hurd 1843-1902
  3. Hiriam Harrison Hurd 1847–1917
  4. William Seward Hurd 1850–1936
  5. Horace Greely Hurd 1853–1934
  6. Dauphin Brown Hurd 1856-1932
  7. Arnold Eugene Hurd 1858-1923

Persis died in 1862.

Sometime before 1870 he married Margaret Van Dyke.

Arnold died in 1894

HURD DR. ARNOLD E. Sec. 1; P. O. Stillman Valley; born in Norway, N. Y., Jan. 5, 1809; married Persis P. Brown, who died Aug., 1861; his present wife, Margaret V. Vandyke, was born in Union Co., Penn.; both members of the Congregational Church; have seven children: Sarah A., Henry E., Hiram H., Seward, Horace G., Dauphin B. and Arnold E., Jr.; Dr. Hurd is one of the oldest settlers; he came to this Co. Dec.25, 1836; was Justice of the Peace some ten or twelve years; held office of School Commissioner some years, and been prominently identified; his residence stands near the site of ground once the scene of the famous Stillman defeat; many incidents are related by him of his early pioneer life.
