Sarah Jane Hurps was born in 1873 in Waterloo, Colony of New South Wales, daughter of Joseph Ernest Hurps (1849–1924) and Eliza Woodbury (1845–1933).
Sarah (38) married Albert Edward Strauss (21) (born about 1890) in 1912 in Sydney, New South Wales. Their children were:
- Maurice Ambrose Strauss (~1912–1998)
- Emanuel Baden Strauss (1914–1968)
- Ena May Strauss (1914– )
Sarah died in 1957 in Windsor, New South Wales, Australia, aged 83.
