Samuel Harley Husted was born 9 April 1900 in Cumberland, New Jersey[1] to Ellsworth and Emma Gaskill Husted.
Samuel Harley Husted graduated from Temple University and received his medical training at the University of Maryland Baltimore. He was a member of the Randolph Winslow Surgical Society, an honorary organization. His school yearbook entry reads as follows:[2]
"Yes, this is "Sam"; otherwise known as Solomon; who began four years ago to solve the mysteries of medicine. Always popular among his classmates; always loyal to his friends, and held in highest esteem by them, he has made an enviable record. His many pranks and his cheerfulness will be missed by us all, but his detailed account of the first five weeks in his senior year can never be forgotten. However, even after we come to the parting of the ways after four years, we feel that our loss will be New Jersey's gain, and we feel confident that "Sam" will be among the foremost in his chosen profession in his State. The best of luck to you, "Sam"."
"Samuel Harley Husted was a doctor in Neshanic NJ, and the founder of the Foothill Acres nursing home in 1959 in Hillsborough, NJ. His mother was blind, and he built the nursing home to care for her. He was considered to be a pioneer in modern nursing homes."[3]
There is a short write up about him in Images of America: Neshanic Station, NJ.[4]
