William Hutchins was born to Enoch and Hopewell (Furbish) Hutchins, August 1, 1694, in Maine.[1]
William married Mary Keen October 17, 1734 in Maine.[2][3]
Research Notes
Mary Keen may have been the daughter of Sarah Keen, who was a daughter of Nathaniel and Sarah (Green) Keen. Nathaniel Keen and Sarah Green were married in 1688.[4] They were both from Kittery, Maine, and married in York County, Maine.[5]
Unreferenced sources suggest that Mary Keen was the daughter of "Captain Keen and Sarah Keen", with no further information about them provided. Was Nathaniel's daughter, Sarah, married to another Keen who was a captain? This same source says that William Hutchins gave power of attorney to wife Mary, April 20, 1737, he presumably died soon after.
In 1739 or 1740, in Kittery or Old York, Maine, Morris O'Brien is reported to have married Mary Cain/Keen, who was possibly a widow, and whose maiden name may have been Hutchins. She was likely born in New England in 1719.[6]
Another source repeats that Morris O'Brien's wife was the widow, Mary (Hutchins) Cain.[7]
Despite these two sources reversing Mary's last name at birth and married name, are they referring to the same Mary who married William Hutchins?
