Nicholas Hutchins was born January 9, 1740, in Henrico County, Virginia, a son of Strangeman Hutchins and Elizabeth Cox. Nicholas' family were members of the religious organization of the Society of Friends, commonly referred to as Quakers. Nicholas Married Sarah Ladd on July 1, 1764 in Virginia. The Hutchins family migrated from Virginia to North Carolina, where Sarah (Ladd) Hutchins died February 22, 1808. Children of Nicholas and Sarah are:
During the American Revolutionary War, Nicholas' and his father's family were living in Goochland County, Virginia and did not serve in the military, since it violated their religious beliefs. His father did, however, provide supplies in support of the patriots. For this, he is honored by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A061241. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of Nicholas Hutchins and Sarah Ladd. [1]
