Obedience was born about 1744 in Henrico, Colony of Virginia, America. She married William Harding on 14 October 1773 in St James Northam Parish, Goochland, Virginia.[1] Obedience died in 1805 and was buried in Surry, North Carolina, United States.[2]

Obedience received certificate from Cedar Creek Monthly Meeting, Hanover Co., VA dated 1795. 1776, 3, 9. Cedar Creek MM: "The friends appointed to visit Obedience Harding have not had an opportunity with her, but one of them rendered an account to the meeting which he received from a friend of the particular meeting to which she did belong, of her orderly life, etc. It appears satisfactory." Power of Attorney to son, Thomas Harding, to dispose of her property in Surry, stated she was a resident of Cumberland County, KY, Deed Book A. pp. 158-159, Surry County, NC, and also a Power of Attorney from Obedience Hutchens to son-in-law, Eli Shugart, Deed Book A. pp.160-161, dated January 27, 1807, Surry County, NC. < Hutchins-Hutchens, by Rita H. DM LeForce, who wrote the material on Find a Grave, said that he "Had her in William C. Patterson Cemetery, Siloam, Surry County, North Carolina, USA but per Robert Carter #46599530 she's not buried here. He claims "she's probably buried at the old Patterson cemetery in Boonville, Yadkin County, NC but in an unmarked grave. I've surveyed that cemetery as well and there is no stone for her".
Per phutch #47770371 "according to Rita Townsend's book on the Descendants of Strangeman HutchIns, Biddy took one slave and moved to Cumberland County, KY, to be close to her youngest daughter Jane. Ms. Townsend reports her death at about 1805 and burial in Kentucky or Surry County, NC".
