Paul Hutchinson was a professional concert accompanist and piano instructor in the Spokane, WA, area for many years. "Uncle Paul" came into contact with the Nichol family in the 1960's, when he had completed his two-year prison sentence [for making some sort of sexual advances to young female piano students]. The family back on the West Coast had ostracized him; his brother-in-law, Byron A. Nichol, thought it was very wrong to do this, and offered him family assistance. With Nichol help, he bought an old cabin near the community of Abner in the Uwharrie hills of North Carolina, and lived out his retired days gardening and playing piano for the Wesleyan Mission Church, on whose grounds he is buried prominently, in front of three Callicutt men who fell in the Civil War. As of this writing I am in possession of Paul's 1920's-era Steinway piano, and a book of Christmas carols published by the famous Trapp Family, autographed in the 1950's by each of them when Paul accompanied them in Spokane.
