Biography

Daniel is the child of Joseph Hall Waring Hutchinson and Mary Freer.

My father's only sibling who survived early childhood (an older brother, Frederick, died in 1905 at age one), is Daniel Hoagland Hutchinson. Daniel was born, raised, and educated in Summerville until leaving home for college. Daniel died at the ripe old age of 98.

Daniel was a graduate of North Carolina State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Following a short work period with the General Electric Company, he departed for a world tour with a friend via a freighter and land transportation as the Depression left him without a job. After moving to Salt Lake City to stay with his uncle, Philip Henry Hutchinson, Jr., he landed a job with Utah Power and married a family friend, Elizabeth Nelson, in 1934. Then working for Graybar Electric Company, he and "Bets" had two daughters, Elizabeth Anne and Susan, before moving with Graybar to Berkeley, CA. Following retirement and two years as a consultant in Honolulu, he and Bets eventually settled in Rossmoor Retirement Community in Walnut Creek, CA where he served as the president of the local association for a period. In 2003,their health mandated a move into a nursing care facility which they did to be near their daughter Susan, in Santa Rosa. Daniel and Bets spent their last years there.
