Biography

Hervey was born 26 March 1788 at Tunbridge, Vermont, the son of Hezekiah Hutchinson and Phebe Farhnam.^[1]

Hervey was a farmer and resided with his family on the Hutchinson Farm in Tunbridge.

Hervey was married twice. His first wife was Elizabeth, maiden name unknown. They had one daughter, Sophia, who died in 1813. The mother died a few months after their daughter, and Hervey was left a widower.

He married Sophia Barnard 19 August 1813 in Sharon, Vermont.^[2] They were the parents of eight children: Sarah (1817-1844); Pheobe (1818-1897); Hezekiah (1820-1906); Electa Emeline (1823-1877); Eliza (1824-1848); an unnamed baby who died at birth (1825-1825), Ellen J. (1831-1832); and Mary Ellen (1833-1925).

Sophia died 12 May 1844 in Tunbridge, Vermont.^[3]

At the time of the 1850 Census, Hervey was living at Tunbridge, Orange County, Vermont; his occupation was listed as "farmer." The value of his real estate was 500. Living with Hervey were his son, Hezekiah, age 29, also a farmer, Mary Ellen, age 16, Rachel Sellers, age 36 (born in Canada), and Rachel's daughter, Ruth E., age 2, born in Vermont.^[4]

Hervey passed away sixteen years later; according to his death record, Hervey died of asthma. He was 72 years, 8 months, and 13 days old at the time of his death.^[5]
