Text: Notes for ANDREW HUTCHISON: Andrew Hutchison was granted a land grant in Stafford County, He served as a vestryman for Truro parish, the same parish that George Washington later served. He may have served as a Gentleman justice since after1745 he is referred to with the honorific title of Gent. which was reserved for those who had served as a justice for the county of Fairfax. He acquired land in the area and before his death he gave this land and his slaves to his surviving sons. He also had at least one petition before the legislature of Va concerning compensation for a runaway slave. His date of death is from a reference of a deed from George Foster to Joseph Hutchison. The land is referred to "holds by deed of gift from his late father Andrew Hutchison". 1.Andrew Hutchison b. 13 Mar 1687, Westmoreland Co., VA, m. ca. 1710, Jane Browning, b. Nomini Forest, Westmoreland Co., VA, (daughter of Thomas Browning and Elizabeth). Andrew died c1760, Loudoun Co., VA, buried: VA. Andrew was of British ancestry. Some researchers believe that he was the son of John Hutchison who died in Northampton County, VA in 1689. His mother, Ann, left no records to which we can refer so we are unable to substantiate this. We can find her will in Richmond County, VA in Will Bk 5, dated 18 Apr 1735, prov. 7 Mar 1736. In her will, she names her son Andrew and her grandson Thomas Hutchison. From her will it appears that Andrew was her only son from her first husband who died when Andrew was no more than 2 years old. His mother's second husband was Jeffry Reynolds/Raynolds of Richmond Co., VA, and they had 4 children. In 1727, Andrew inherited 2 plantations, totaling over 400 acres, from Thomas Browning, his father-in-law. One of these was Nomini Forest, Westmoreland Co., VA. The other, according to Browning's will, (Will Bk 8-1, p. 210), dated 31 Jan 1726, prov. 22 Feb 1726, "ye plantation whereon ye sd. Andrew Hutchison now lives."
