Biography

Albert was born in 1863. He was recorded in the 1871 and 1881 censues living with his parents, Thomas Hutton and Elizabeth in Eccleshill, Yorkshire[1],[2]. His listed occupation in 1881 was "Dyer and Finisher[3]." Albert married Harriet Grant of Manningham, daughter of Charles Grant (deceased) in Bradford on 10 Apr 1889[4]. The couple had their first child in 1890. Albert was employed as an "Inspector of Nuisances" in the 1891 census for Northowram, Yorkshire (13km south of Eccleshill). By 1901, Albert added the title of "Road Surveyor" to his duties as an Inspector of Nuisances[5] and in 1911, he was a "Road Surveyor" and " Sanitary Inspector"[6]. Albert and Harriet had six sons, two of whom died during World War I. Harriet died in 1937[7] and Albert lived on another 20 years dying in Bradford on 31 January 1958[8].

Doubt on date of birth. Oct.1863, but A.Conny has it as Oct.1864. Didn't like his second name of Edwin and always gave it and signed as "Albert Edward".
Albert was a very dour and serious man. I think Dad was a bit afraid of him. I only remember him from his visit to Pinner in the early Fifties. He brought his own homemade wholemeal bread with him, and ate only that and apples.
A.Conny wrote on 12 Dec 1982 - "On looking through some past letters from you I see you mention the couple who stood as witnessess for you Grandma and Grandad. Well they were unknown to each other, but met at the church and as neither pair had
witnessesses they stood in for each other, and never met again during their lifetime. Your Grandma told me that, strange as it would seem, none of Grandad's relations knew they were getting married and after the ceremony your Grandad gave her
twopence into her hand & said ""thee get theesen onto the tram & go home, & say nowt to anyone & I will walk home"" When he arriived back to Eccleshill at Moorside Rd. he just said to his parents & sister - we were married this morning & will
be going to live in Queensbury where I have got a job!!". He was a strange & loveless man, & grandma had a very hard life with him-poor soul.
