First Marriage

Agnes first married John Cromarty on 27 November 1829 in Arbroath, Angus. She was 18 years old and JohnCromarty was 51 years old[2][3] They moved between the parishes of Kirkden, St Vigeans and Arbroath. During their marriage, they had several children.

Children

1841 Census

Agnes was found on the 1841 census, living in the parish of Arbroath (272) , Angus[4] Agnes Cromarty, Address: West Gremsby, living with 5 children - James Cromarty(12), William Cromarty (8), Louisa Cromarty (5), Hannah Cromarty, * David Cromarty (2) and two boarders, aged in their twenties.

John, her husband, is not there and, although her age is given as 25, she is, in fact, 30 years old with 5 children aged 12 to 2. She was also 8 months pregnant with George Cromarty who was born the following month as the census was taken 6 June 1841 and he was born July 1841. This census is important as her name changes on the births of George and David, one Jean, one Isabel and the rest Agnes and yet, all those children are living with her. Why she changed her Christian name is a mystery but everything else ties in.

Second Marriage

She married again on 26 August 1844 in St Cuthberts, Midlothian to Kenneth Cameron[5]
