Birth

Thomas Hyde was born ABT 1563, Of, Norbury, Cheshire, England

"Thomas Hyde, D.D., was Prebendary of Ilfracombe in Salisbury Cathedral, 1583; Canon Residentiary Chancellor, 1588 ; Vicar of Boscombe ; Vicar of Stratford Tony, 1614 ; died 1618. He also is referred to by Anne, widow of Laurence Hyde, in her will, as Dr. Hyde, of Sarum. He seems to have been married twice, if the following entries in the Salisbury Cathedral Register relate to him and his family : —

1601, July 27. Mary, wife of Thomas Hide, Canon Residentiary, buried.

1602, Nov. 5. Elizabeth, d. of Thomas Hide, Canon, christened. 1604, Nov. 17. Margaret, d. of Thomas Hide, D.D., christened.

1608, May 15. Katherine, d. of Thomas Hide, D.D., christened.

1609, Apr. 1. Jane, d. of Thomas Hide, D.D., christened.

1610, Mar. 26. Thomas, s. of Thomas Hide, D.D., christened.

1611, Sep. 27. Barbara, d. of Thomas Hide, D.D., christened. 1614, Apr. 6. Luce, d. of Thomas Hide, christened.

1617, May 27. Robert, s. of Thomas Hide, D.D., christened.

His daughter Barbara is probably the Barbara Hyde who married, 29 May 1632, Thomas Chafin, D.D., Vicar of Mere, as his first wife, at Tisbury, where, and also in the Mere Registers, the marriage is recorded. Dr. Charm's sufferings and death at the hands of Cromwell's soldiers are mentioned in Walker's Sufferings of the Clergy.

Their son Thomas was baptized at Tisbury, on the 25th June 1633, and their daughter Barbara, at Mere, in 1636. Barbara Chafin was buried at Mere, in 1636, and her husband soon afterwards married again.

Chancellor Hyde is mentioned in the Tisbury Registers as a person of importance in the record of the marriages of three of Laurence Hyde's daughters — "Mr. Thomas Huyde now Chancellor of the Cathedral Church of Sarum celebrating the marriage". He died in December 16 18, and was buried in Salisbury Cathedral."

Hyde was replaced at the vicarage of Boscombe in 1614 by his nephew, Edward Hyde, son of his brother Edward Hyde and Alice St. Barbe Hyde, mentioned in the Will of Thomas' widow Margaret, who calls him "my cousin Mr. Edward Hyde, Parson of Boscombe" and entrusts him with guardianship of her son Thomas. [1] He [Edward] is also in the will of his aunt, Mary (St. Barbe) Langford who calls him "My kinsman Mr Edward Hyde of Boscome, preacher of God's Word" and assigns him as one of her overseers. [2][3]

Burial

Date: 9 DEC 1618, Salisbury, Wiltshire, England

Hyde-230 and Hyde-1662 appear to represent the same person because: Same mother, birth year, birth place. Correct death year is probably 1618, based on Clergy of the Church of England Database
