John Hyslop was born at sea as his parents, Andrew and Margaret Boyd Hyslop, traveled from Scotland to Australia. They returned to Scotland in 1858 or 1859 and then sailed to America in 1860. His family settled on a farm close to Princeton, Indiana.
He married Jane Kirk on Christmas Day, 1878. After her death he married Ethel Gillespie.
He died Jan. 31, 1932 and was buried in Dexter Cemetery, Dexter, Stoddard County, Missouri[1].
