Naomi (Illi) McCormick, 84, a longtime Alaska resident and formerly of Troy, passed away peacefully at Horizon House in Anchorage, Alaska, on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015.
She was born to Melvin and Nova Illi on Feb. 8, 1931, on American Ridge at her grandparents' home in Troy. She attended schools in Troy, and graduated in 1950 from Troy High School. During her high school years, she was active in Future Homemakers of America, and in her senior year she was crowned "Queen Helen of Troy." She attended Kinman Business College in Spokane.
She met her husband, Jack McCormick, while working in Moscow, and they were married on Sept. 24, 1952. They ran a small laundromat in Moscow for several years while Jack attended the University of Idaho. After Jack's graduation in 1957, they traveled the dusty Alcan Highway to Anchorage, Alaska, where they settled to raise their family. Jack worked in his own practice as a certified public accountant, and Naomi thrived as a homemaker and in raising their two children. In 1967, they built a cabin on Horseshoe Lake, Alaska, where Naomi and her family enjoyed spending many summer, winter and weekend adventures throughout the years. She was a wonderful cook and baker, an avid reader, enjoyed many craft activities, liked gardening, especially creating beautiful flower baskets during the Alaska summers, as well as creating beautiful silk floral arrangements for her home. She lovingly assembled many family photo albums. She enjoyed camping with her family and traveling. She was happiest when spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son, Patrick (wife Anne) of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter Jacquelyn (husband Glen) Haasl of Chugiak, Alaska; and grandchildren Mitchell and Miranda Haasl of Chugiak, Alaska, and Christian, Ava and Sophia McCormick of Anchorage, Alaska.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Jerald D. (Jack) McCormick; brother Clinton Illi, of Troy; sister Jean (Illi) Jones of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.
A private family ceremony will be held at a later date, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband at the Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery in Anchorage, Alaska. [1]
