His parents were Sir Arthur Ingram and his 2nd wife Alice Ferrers, dau of William Ferrers, of London, and widow of John Halliday. [1]

Thomas Ingram was baptised on 23 June 1614.

In 1640 he was Member of Parliament for Thirsk, Yorkshire. In September 1642, following the outbreak of the English Civil War, he was disabled from sitting in the House of Commons, and was Commissioner of Array for Charles I in Yorkshire. In 1649 he compounded with the parliamentary authorities for the return of his estates. He was involved in the negotiations which led to the Restoration.

In 1660 he was appointed a Gentleman of the Privy Chamber of Charles II. From 1660 to 1661 he was Deputy Lieutenant of the North Riding of Yorkshire. From 1660 to 1668 he was a Commissioner of Trade. He held a number of other government positions. In 1661 he was again elected Member of Parliament for Thirsk. In 1664 he was appointed Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and a Privy Councillor.

He married Frances, dau of Sir Thomas Belasyse, 1st Viscount Fauconberg, bapt Coxwold, 19 Feb 1617-8, buried at Westminster Abby 27 Mar 1680, will 27 Sep 1676,proved 1 Apr 1680. They had: [1]

  1. Mary, bapt at Belfreys, York, 21 Dec 1638; died young; bur at Westminster Abbey 12 jun 1651.

He died 13 Feb 1671-2 and was buried 17 Feb 1671-2 in Westminster Abbey, London. [1]
