John married firstly Elizabeth ? (b abt 1829 in Indiana) and secondly Elizabeth Abney (b abt 1839 in Virginia). His second wife was 26 years younger than he.

Daughter Priscilla was 1 year old in the 1850 census. She is missing from the 1860 census so she probably died in childhood. John's wife is listed as a widow in the 1880 census, so he passed away some time between 1874 when his youngest child was born and 1880.
