The following is an edited extract from the Ingram Book:
He was apprenticed on the first day of September 1826 at the age of 16 years to a bricklayer named William Fuller.
Though he said he never had any inclination to gamble there was a time when he only had 1 shilling in the whole world and was pressed to make a 1 shilling bet and lost it.
He firstly married Ann Francis Gosden whose father kept The Waterman's Arms public house at Hersham, Surrey. Her father also farmed a lot of land and supplied horses and Brakes for the high road (highway). These Brakes were the tradesmen's horse drawn four wheel transport vehicles.
Joseph started his own business as a builder in 1839. During his first year when not fully occupied he worked as a journeyman to build Hersham Parish Church of Holy Trinity. The following year he was fully occupied with his own work and employed a few men.
His first wife, Ann Francis, died giving birth to her fourth child, a son, on 2 October 1843. [There is no record of the son's birth and I expect he was stillborn.] Ann's tombstone in Hersham Churchyard records her death during childbirth.
He married his second wife, Ann Pratt, two years later. In 1851 they visited The Great Exhibition in The Crystal Palace, Hyde Park.

1923 Joseph Ingram wrote a family history of the Ingrams.
This book was passed down through his sister Kate Emily Ingram, and her daughter Kathleen Ann Shipton, to her nephew John Long Shipton. His notes in the original book have since been supplimented by the later guardians of his book.
They were largely instrumental in encouraging the later geneological researches of subsequent keepers.
