Educated to be Lawyer but preferred the military life. (1)

2 January 1863, Ensign in the 1st Battalion Wentworth Regiment. (1)

Transferred to the 13th Hamilton Regiment. 12 May 1864, Captain. (1)

During the American Civil War, Canada had to maintain an armed force at various border towns. The 2nd Battalion at Windsor during which time he became an Officer, Adjutant Lieutenant 21 April 1865. (1)

5 July 11867, Major 13 Battalion, Hamilton. (1)

5 July 1872 Lieutenant-Colonel. (1)
