Jane Irwin was the daughter of Archibald Irwin and his first wife, Mary Ramsey. She married William Henry Harrison, Jr., son of President William Henry Harrison. Because President Harrison's wife was too ill to travel to Washington, DC, Jane acted as official White House hostess. She married secondly in 1842, Lewis Whiteman.
