Biography

Phyllis Mason was born about 1700. Parents unknown.

she married 1st to James Sammons II, 1719, VA

After James Sammons died Phyllis married longtime neighbor Henry Ivey sometime between late 1765 and mid-1767.

James Sammons had left a will dated 31 January 1765 and proved on 19 September 1765 which bequeathed his residual estate to his wife Phillis Sammons.
Beloved wife Phillis SAMMONS left all the rest of my estate in 31 Jan 1765 Will of James II SAMMONS.

On 20 August 1767 David Mason, executor of James Sammons, deeded land to James Sammons Jr. in which “Phillis Ivey mother of the sd James Sammons hath dower”. Obviously, Henry Ivey had no children by Phyllis Sammons. Henry Ivey’s will indicates that he and Phyllis had a marriage contract [1]

Maiden name?

It would seem that her maiden name was AVEY, since she had a daughter Avey SAMMONS.
