Marriage:
Date: 27 OCT 1858
Place: Milford Twp, Knox Co, OH
Note: According to the Marriage Records of Knox Co, Eliza and Abram (or Abraham) Jackson were married in Milford Twp, Knox Co by Isaac L. Jackson, the Justice of the Peace in the fall of 1858. In September, 1861 (during the Civil War), the couple decided to move to Scioto Twp, Delaware, purchasing 56 acres adjoining their brother/sister, John and Phebe M. (Hawkins) Jackson. They bought the land for 5 from John who had purchased the entire parcel of 112 acres from Elmslee Higginbotham for 30. The land was located in the "Virginia Military District", and consisted of the north half of lot 5 in the subdivision of survey #5868 as made by James Eaton. Both parcels are located a few miles west of Delaware, on the north side of Slocum Road just east of Burnt Pond Road where the road jogs to the south. John's land fronts on the road with Abe's behind it to the north. It is fairly level rich farm land bordered by dense forest on either side. In 1997, it looked much the same as it must have in 1861 as not much development has occurred in that area.
On Jan 8, 1873, Abram and Eliza H. sold their parcel, the north 1/2 of Lot 5 (56 acres) and another tract of 14 acres "being located in the middle of survey # 15796 of the Virginia Military survey at the SW corner of Mary Pettibone's land (Deed Bk 64, p. 565) for $ 3348, a significant profit from their payment of 5. They sold their land to Oliver P.Clark, the same farmer who bought John and Phebe's land. When they got to Red Oak, they bought farms south of Red Oak in the same neighborhood as John and Phebe, Erial and Roseannah, and Ephraim Hawkins.
Land records in Montgomery Co, IA show that Abram and Eliza purchased land from John Harding on April 11, 1893 (Bk7-351) NE1/2 SE 1/4 18-71-38 and SE 1/4 of SW just west of the Nishnabotna in West Township (see also 1875 map) The land is low lying and quite flat bottom land, probably prone to flooding of the Nishnabotna. It was directly adjacent to land purchased by Ephraim Hawkins and later sold to son George Hawkins. The Stevens and John and Eliza Jackson had farms a few miles to the east.
According to Montgomery Co. birth records, Eliza gave birth on Sept. 20, 1881 to a daughter (the 4th birth) who died at birth. Eliza was 41 at the time and died 5 days later of puerperal fever. At least two of the other children, Oren Ephraim and Walter G. were born in Ohio ("Delaware Co-1860" and "Ostrander-1867)[2]
