Biography

Effie Jane Jackson, the daughter of John Jackson and Amanda Arnett, was born 18 May 1883 in Benton County, Arkansas and she passed away 30 March, 1970 in Edmond, Oklahoma.[1] She is buried in Gracelawn Cemetery, Edmond, Oklahoma.[2]

In the 1900 U.S. Federal Census, Dewey Township, Oklahoma Territory, the family is listed as:

  • J. Jackson, a farmer, age 50 born June 1850 in Tennessee,
  • Mandosa, his wife, age 48 born November 1852 in Tennessee. This record states the couple have been married 26 years and Mandosa has given birth to six children with three still living.
  • W.M., his son, age 24 born September 1875 in Arkansas, and
  • E.J. Jackson, daughter, age 14 born May 1883 in Arkansas.[3]

The 1910 U.S. Federal Census, Edmond, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma shows John W. Jackson, widowed, age 59 of Arkansas and his daughter Effie J. age 26.[4]

Miss Effie J. Jackson age 29 and E.W. Wood of Lockridge, Logan County, Oklahoma were united in marriage 5 October 1912 at the bride's home in Deer Creek, Edmond, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma. Mrs. William M. Jackson of Luther, Oklahoma was a witness to the marriage.[5]

The 1930 U.S. Federal Census of Edmond, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma lists the family as:

  • Edwin Wood, manufacturer of fly swatters, age 60 from Illinois,
  • Effie Jane, his wife, age 46 from Arkansas,
  • Lucille, daughter, age 16 born in Oklahoma,
  • Floyd, son, age 14 born in Oklahoma,
  • Wilbur, son, age 12 born in Oklahoma,
  • Loren, son, age nine born in Oklahoma, and
  • Berniece, daughter, age five born in Oklahoma.[6]

Wilbur Glen Wood, son of Edwin and Effie Jackson Wood, passed away 5 April 1957 in Contra Costa, California. He was born 16 September 1917 in Oklahoma.[7]

The 1950 U.S. Federal Census, Edmond, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, shows Effie J. Wood, widowed, age 66 and her grandson Hubert M. Stone age 17 living in the same household.[8]
