There are two theories on the origin of this woman. The marriage registration for Annetie Jacobs and Lambert van Valckenburgh indicates that she was from Tonningen, which apparently is the same place as Tönning in modern Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. In contrast, materials published by the National Association of the Van Valkenburg Family in America cite a record for her baptism on 8 April 1622 in the church at Tongeren, which is in modern Limburg, Belgium, very near her husband's home town of Millen.[1]
According to their bann registration on 4 January 1642 Lambert was from Millen, Belgium and his wife was from Tonningen (Schleswig Holstein). His age was 26 and hers 20. [9] Transcription of the banns:
"Lambert van Valckenburgh van Millen oud 26 jaar, geen ouders hebbend, woon xxx. Boomstraat & Annetie Jacobs van Tonningen, woonend als voorn(oemd?), xxx ouders hebben, oud 20 jaar."
translation of the text: "Lambert van Valckenburgh age 26 years, no parents alive, living xxxx Boomstraat & Annetie Jacobs from Tonningen, living as aforementioned, xxxx parents alive, age 20 years"
Her age at marriage of 20 suggests she must have been born about 1621.
They emigrated to New Netherland after January 1642 (marriage date in Amsterdam) and before July 1644 (bought land in New Amsterdam, New Netherland). It must have been on one of the ships mentioned on olive tree [10]
Death
September 17, 1704 in Albany, Province of New York [11][1][12]
Research Notes
Note: birth per V V Family in America, vol I., Gateway Press, 1981, p.16
The page https://navvf.org/VVgene/pafg03.htm#5721 gives the 8 April 1622 baptism date, but it names her parents as Arnold Jacobs and Elizabeth Unknown -- not Lambert Jacobs and Unknown Unknown, the names connected to this profile. Has anyone seen a copy of the baptism record? It should indicate who the parents (or at least one parent) were. I am skeptical of the idea that her father's last name was Jacobs; her patronymic name of Jacobs should indicate that her father's first name was Jacob. Smith-62120 00:17, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
