Research Notes

Name

  • Last name Coens, or Coenraad.
  • Coens may actually be her 'grand-matronymic', Agnietje assumably being named "Agnietje Coens" after her grandmother, Agnietje Coensse.
  • The early records of the church were written in Dutch. Her name was translated by Roswell Randall Hoes as Angenieta Coens, Agniet Koen, Angieta Coens and Agniet Jacobz in the baptism records of her children.
  • LNAB per New Netherland Project naming conventions is Coens, the name that appears on the earliest baptism record. -Smith-62120 20:25, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

Geographical Information

The baptism and marriage records of her children provide clues to when and where Agnietje lived. Baptism records place her and her husband Dirck Keyser near the Old Dutch Church of Kingston which is currently in Kingston, Ulster County, New York. Four children of Dirck and Agnietje were baptized at the church in 1671, 1679, 1681 and 1684. There may have been additional children born before, after or in between these documented children.

The marriage record for Cornelis Keyser stated that he was born in Kingston (1671) and currently (1698) resided in Moreml [Marbletown]. [11] The marriage record for Jannetie stated that she was born in Hurley (1681) and currently (1703) resided in Moreml [Marbletown]. [12] The marriage record for Jacob stated that he was born in Roosedaal [Rosendale] (1684) and currently (1702) resided in Horle [Hurley]. [13]

Rosendale, Hurley, Mombaccus and Kingston are near each other and are all currently in Ulster County, New York. Wikipedia says that Mombaccus was the Dutch name for the area that became the Town of Rochester.

Van Kuykendall-51 and Coens-13 appear to represent the same person because: Same person. Her LNAB has been determined to be Coens.

Note that there are many "sources" cited here that are useless.

Van Kuykendall-51 and Coens-13 do not represent the same person because: at the moment there is not enough evidence for a merge
Van Kuykendall-51 and Coens-13 appear to represent the same person because: Same person. She is believed to be a sister of Luur Jacobszen, known as van Kuykendaal, but there is no record indicating that she used the van Kuykdendal name.

Jacobsen-697 and Coens-1 appear to represent the same person because: Agnietje Jacobs (Coens) Keyser (abt. 1647), wife of Dirck Corneliszen Keyser (abt. 1645) is the same person as Agniet Coens Jacobsen (abt. 1647) wife of Dirck Cornelissen Keyser (abt. 1645 - 1714). The names were written and translated with various spellings. Her name in the baptism records in 1671, 1781 and 1684 appeared as Angenieta Coens, Angieta Coens and Agniet Jacobz.
Van Kuykendall-2 and VanKuykendall-28 appear to represent the same person because: These are duplicate profiles. Van Kuykendall-2 is the green NNS designated profile. Please merge. If you need assistance with this merge please let me know and I will gladly do the merge or answer questions.
Jacobson-337 and Van Kuykendall-2 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest maternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge into the NNS PPP. No tree conflicts. By the marriage to a husband, the gender of this NNS needs to be set as female, either during or after merge completion. There is a switch available for that during merge data selection. Thanks!

VanKuykendall-16 and Van Kuykendall-2 appear to represent the same person because: This one is ready to merge into NNS PPP. Not sure which birth is correct, one is only an about. Thanks!
